Imagine yourself on your apartment balcony with a “picture postcard” river view on a bright summer evening. Or sitting comfortably facing large windows and looking at the winter rain falling on the Tagus and cascading over the rooftops; or waking up early morning, sitting in bed, and having Lisbon and the river at your feet. These are just a few highlights of this romantic 2-bedroom apartment, the perfect accommodation for a short romantic or family break in the heart of the charming Alfama quarter.
The wonderful thing about this apartment is that it’s flooded with natural light. Everywhere we look there’s an incredible light and beautiful views over the river, the tiled rooftops, the Santa Luzia viewpoint and the convent of São Vicente de Fora. The interiors are comfortable and modern with a color scheme that captures and enhances the sunlight: walls are painted white and the wooden floor has a light shade of brown. We love both the sloping ceiling bedrooms: the main one has a bright red bedcover and a wooden platform, which allows for the most extraordinary early morning views; and the one with the 2 single beds has a ceiling window from where you can gaze at the stars before you fall asleep.
This incredibly scenic apartment has 2 floors, 2 bedrooms (1 en suite with a toilet) and 1 bathroom with shower. Ideal for a small group of friends or for a couple and their children, it is best for 4, but can accommodate 6 guests. Downstairs one finds the living room with a balcony and 2 single sofa beds with panoramic river views together with an equipped kitchenette and a dining table. Upstairs are the bedrooms: the one en suite includes a double bed and a toilet. The other one has 2 single beds (with the option of a double bed). The bathroom has a shower cabin. There are 2 single sofa beds in the living room. Mind your head when walking round the bedrooms because of their sloping ceilings! The many stairs in the apartment, in the building and in the neighborhood are an invitation to the fitness of the guests! (historic area without access to cars)
For sightseeing, Alfama is probably Lisbon’s most interesting quarter, packed with monuments from 12th to 18th century, Fado venues, little restaurants and bars, and about 2 minutes away from the famous 28 tram which will take you through some of Lisbon’s highlights.
The apartment is walking distance from the breathtaking Portas do Sol (“sun’s doors”) belvedere from where you can enjoy the river’s ever changing colors and the outline of Serra da Arrábida mountains.
But you can also start to walk the downhill cobbled stone streets of old Lisbon to reach places such as the Fado Museu (4 min), Sao Jorge Castle and Se Cathedral (6 min), the breathtaking Praça do Comércio (12 min), downtown Rossio (15 min), and about 25 min away the aristocratic Chiado and the alternative Bairro Alto.
If you prefer to walk uphill from your apartment you reach the Graça belvedere and the imposing 18th century Graça church (where you might listen to a church choir rehearsal on a Sunday afternoon) in about 10 min. Also in a 10 min range from this church, you will find the even more beautiful Senhora do Monte belvedere; typical Feira da Ladra (flea market) on Tuesdays and Saturdays; or São Vicente de Fora convent and its incredibly beautiful rooftop (please do not miss it!).
This quarter is served by the 28 tram and some buses. However, if you walk downhill and reach the river side you will find buses that will transport you to Lisbon’s every corner (including the airport). Or, alternatively, take the metro in Terreiro do Paço or Santa Apolónia (both ca 12 min). From Rossio square you can walk across Baixa and reach Cais do Sodré train station which serves the beautiful seaside village/resorts of Cascais and Estoril (30 min), where the Portuguese and European royalties used to spend their summers in the late 19th and early 20th century or Rosio station from where you can take the train and visit the amazing natural jewel that Sintra is.
